EXPO 2012 Recap

20th Annual Gentlemen’s Club EXPO

2012exporegAugust 26-29, 2012 at The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas

Produced by ED Publications, the EXPO celebrated its anniversary in style with a three-day Tradeshow & Convention, including the 15th Annual ED’s Awards Show

The 2012 Annual Gentlemen’s Club Owners EXPO—which marked the 20-Year Anniversary of the industry’s annual convention and tradeshow—was held with great fanfare this past August 26-29 at the luxurious Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.  Produced annually by ED (EXOTIC DANCER) Publications, this year’s convention celebrated a true milestone for the multi-billion-dollar gentlemen’s club industry.

“Our 20th Annual Gentlemen’s Club Owners EXPO attendees truly embraced the ‘Reunion’ theme, and we saw dozens of faces that hadn’t been present at recent conventions,” notes ED Publisher, Don Waitt.  “But it was also exciting to see so many new faces who, somewhat surprisingly, were attending their first EXPO. Either way, we experienced a significant spike in attendance and certainly expect that this is a great sign that the EXPO will enjoy 20 more years of success!”

While the 2012 EXPO’s seminars, tradeshow and special events reflected the current state of the gentlemen’s club industry, they also saluted its history, especially the industry’s evolution over the past two decades. Three “State of the Union” speakers—John Gray, Chairman & CEO of the Spearmint Rhino club chain; Joe Redner, owner of the world-famous Mons Venus adult nightclub in Tampa; and Michael J. Peter, one of the industry’s most legendary club owners and the inventor of the term “gentlemen’s club”—provided their own unique perspective on their experiences in the industry over the past 20 years.

“To have such well known and esteemed club owners provided three ‘State of the Union’ addresses, from three completely different perspectives, was a feather in the convention’s cap,” says ED Associate Publisher, Dave Manack.  “It was especially moving to see Joe Redner, who is in remission from stage 4 lung cancer, get a standing ovation from a capacity crowd of EXPO attendees.”

The Annual Gentlemen’s Club Owners EXPO is the only national convention and tradeshow for the multi-billion-dollar adult nightclub industry, and is produced by ED Publications, the industry’s trade magazine for the past 20 years.  The EXPO draws 3,000 attendees, including over 1,700 club owners, general managers, and club personnel from individual clubs and club chains.  Other EXPO attendees include liquor, beer and wine distributors; food and beverage companies; club furnishings and bar products companies; attorneys, architects, club brokers and insurance specialists; and sound, lighting and staging companies.

EXPO 2012 attendees were treated to three days of must-attend workshops and panel sessions geared toward club owners, general managers and other key club personnel; two days of a 300-booth Tradeshow with vendors showcasing their latest products and services; two evening parties that are equal parts networking and enjoyable fun; and the 15th Annual ED Awards Show—yet another convention milestone—honoring the industry’s top adult nightclubs and entertainers (for more information on the 2012 ED’s Awards Show, including photos and a list of winners, please visit www.edpublications.com/expo-coverage/1497-and-the-winners-are). Other EXPO 2012 highlights included the the Opening Night “Reunion” Party & Blackjack Tournament, featuring $6,000 in prizes, and the Closing Party & Feature Entertainer Showcase at the Vegas Hustler Club.

When it comes to being a more profitable club, small club operators often don’t have the budget to hire ‘experts’ or pour thousands into an advertising budget. Instead, they have to find a way to succeed with a small staff and a do-it-yourself attitude. Our panel of experts gave our workshop attendees the real nuts-and-bolts advice on how they can make their clubs more profitable—today—operating within a budget that is realistic for them (and you).
